Deathbringer

Magical staves are often created by wizards as part of their training, and research. In addition to being a powerful tool when they are done, they can provide a good way to create experimental versions of spells.

Deathbringer is a +4 necromantic quarterstaff.

In addition to its magical bonus, it also has 50 charges, some other unique properties.

Touch Spell Delivery0Deathbringer can deliver touch based spells with some additional quarterstaff damage. This ability requires the wielder to have access to touch based spells, either through spellcaster levels, or by way of an Imbue with Spell Ability.
Vampric Touch1Vampiric touch cast at the wielders spell casting level. This is only available if the caster can cast vampiric touch. A spellcaster can learn the vampric touch spell, clerical or arcane versions, by spell research involving this staff.
Animate Dead2Animate Dead cast at the wielders spell casting level. This is only available if the caster can cast Animate Dead. A spellcaster can learn the Animate Dead spell, clerical or arcane versions, by spell research involving this staff.

Hit Point Recovery

Any time damage is done by this staff, it has the ability to transfer some of the damage done back to the wielder. This effect can occur only once per opponent per round, no matter how many hits are delivered in that round. It can never transfer more hit points than were done in damage in a round of battle. It does not do additional damage to the target. The number of hit points transferred varies depending on the wielder, or on circumstances:
Wielder is Good (LG,NG,CG)1d6
Wielder is Neutral (LN,N,CN)2d6
Wielder is Evil (LE,NE,CE)3d6
Desecrated or Unhallowed Ground+1d6

Other Properties

If the wielder of the staff is slain, her life force is sucked into the staff, adding one charge per level of the wielder. At the same time, it automatically animates the wielder's body (even if the wielder does not have access to animate dead) and puts the zombie under the caster's control. If the wielder is a spellcaster, the zombie can cast spells for the spellcaster, but only necromantic ones. The wielder trapped in the staff itself can cast any necromantic spells that do not need gestures to complete.

If the trapped wielder ever leaves the staff, through whatever means, the charge level in the staff drops by the wielders level. If the charges in the staff fall below the trapped wielder's level while the wielder is still in the staff, the weilder loses levels to match.
